The College of Social Sciences and Humanities has been conducting quality learning teaching activities using the academic staff members with different field of specialization on regular, summer and extension under graduate and postgraduate programs. To support the teaching learning activities there are two laboratories under the department of English Language and Literature and Geography and Environmental Studies. The ELIC center and GIS are very important to give the practical teaching for students using the technical assistances hired under those departments. The college graduated many under graduate and postgraduate students with best knowledge, skill and attitude towards their future career.

The other pillar for the college is research and community services. instructors are involving themselves in different thematic areas that will solve the societal problems. All instructors under the college are invited to participate and took part in the research areas. Regarding the community services the college has delivered different community services such as engagement in teaching for high school students wherever there is a request from the school, trainings are also delivered to fill the gap of knowledge for the officials. 

Know About Us

The college of Social Sciences and Humanities was initially started as faculty of Social Sciences with four departments, namely Applied Geography, Sociology, Psychology and Ethiopian languages and literature-Amharic in 2000 E.C.  During the time (1999E.C), it was intimately working with Faculty of Education (Geography, History and English) and instructors were working inter-faculties.  At the beginning, the Faculty was enrolled 141 students. In 2002 E.C. the faculty was reorganized to the College level and due to cease of Faculty of Education some departments (Applied Geography and Geography education) were merged and other departments like History, English and Amharic were incorporated under it. Since then, a number of departments were opened (Civic and Ethical studies during its establishment) and by this time over 3,184 students were enrolled as regular, summer and extension of Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs.
